Beauty For Ashes

This is a really good thought for me today. We all have dreams that just fail or explode or just don’t take off sometimes. The only constant in the world is God. He will always be the same even when people let us down.Beauty-for-Ashes-1 People WILL let us down. Letting go of the broken dream is hard, trusting again can be hard. I love that God is in the redemption business.

I saw this from Joel Osteen today ..

The scripture says, “God will give you beauty for ashes.” Ashes represent our broken dreams, our failures, our disappointments and our hurts. Here’s the key: you have to let go of the ashes before you can receive the beauty. If you won’t let go of the old, you can’t receive the new.

It’s About Love

Life is meaningless .. a chasing after the wind …Ecclesiastes 1:14

Sometimes life seems so empty. Chasing after material things and careers .. even people, can leave us feeling lacking. This is not an everyday feeling for me but, sometimes I feel this crop up in my head. When I do, I either just deal with it or let it pass, but today I was going on my daily walk  and complaining to God about how disappointed I was that my life didn’t seem have any real purpose. You know, just thinking that I would feel happier if I was doing more .. or maybe comparing myself to others that I think have that magic balance in their lives that tell them that they are on the right track ..

So then God interrupts my thoughts and says to me: “What if I were to tell you that your only purpose was to love me”?

Wow. That just blew all the clouds away! It’s about love. We are here to LOVE. To love and be loved. That is our purpose. That is why he created us. To love us and to return that love. He wanted children, not robots or servants. He wanted children to LOVE and, to love back, without conditions. Don’t let anyone tell you that you have to earn this love. It’s there all the time.

It reminded me of one of my favorite songs ..

NATURE BOY

There was a boy

A very strange, enchanted boy

They say he wandered very far

Very far, over land and sea

A little shy and sad of eye

But very wise was he

And then one day,

One magic day he passed my way

While we spoke of many things

Fools and Kings

This he said to me

The greatest thing you’ll ever learn

Is just to love and be loved in return

As I Am … a Song About Unconditional Acceptance

As I Am …

I’ve been thinking about God’s acceptance of us vs mans conditional performance based acceptance. In order to fit into the human world usually we have to jump through hoops, be what someone else thinks we should be, listen to a certain style of music, talk a certain way and even dress a certain way. This is very restricting and squeezes out who we really are …. AND it is a never ending cycle of needing to please and trying to keep up.

I’m so glad that God is not like that! He accepts us just as we are .. warts and all. We don’t have to pay over and over for the things in our lives past or present. He wants a relationship with us MORE than we want one with him. THAT is ultimately what he wants. His acceptance of us even when we fail is unending. He wants to pick us up and brush us off and clean us up so that we can have an abundance of life … not condemnation over our mistakes. I know I have lived a life filled with mistakes and imperfection … and he never fails to embrace me.

They toil not, nor do they spin …

Lily of the Field …

lilyHave you ever pondered over the scripture in Matthew 6 about the lilies of the field? I’ve read it many times, but one day while reading it, I had this inner dialog with God about it. In my heart I thought: ” I can’t imagine not worrying. You mean you really don’t want us to worry? How can this be”?

So then I got this vision of a little lily on a hillside sitting in the sun. It was just beaming and unfettered. Everything in its life was taken care of. It was free to just soak in the sun and soak in the love of God.

That’s what God wants for us. He wants us to be free of worry and strife. He wants us to trust him and depend on him to provide for us. For us to trust him with our dreams, and put all of or fears in his hands.

The vision was so beautiful and serene and just filled me with wonder. I had to write a song about it.

Lily of the Field

Lily of the field you astound me so

Gently sleeping in the sun

Do you carry burdens deep within your soul

Little flower in the sun.

Lily of the field will you answer me

Is there nothing to be sewn

If I were to wake you or disturb your sleep

Would you make your answer known.

Lily how you shine within your circumstance

Even when your world has come undone

Even when the darkest of clouds appear

Lily is still shining in the sun

Lily of the field give me eyes to see

The untold secret of your peace

As I kneel beside you among your gentle beams

Won’t you share it with me
