Beauty For Ashes

This is a really good thought for me today. We all have dreams that just fail or explode or just don’t take off sometimes. The only constant in the world is God. He will always be the same even when people let us down.Beauty-for-Ashes-1 People WILL let us down. Letting go of the broken dream is hard, trusting again can be hard. I love that God is in the redemption business.

I saw this from Joel Osteen today ..

The scripture says, “God will give you beauty for ashes.” Ashes represent our broken dreams, our failures, our disappointments and our hurts. Here’s the key: you have to let go of the ashes before you can receive the beauty. If you won’t let go of the old, you can’t receive the new.

My Capacious Dream

 My Capacious Dream …pointing

I was taking my brothers kids on a outing. We were walking down a trail to a creek. He has 4 children. Three 7 year old triplets (2 boys and a girl) and one 9 year old. In order to get to the other side we had to cross the creek stones through rushing slippery water. I went first so I could help them cross. When we got on shore we had to crawl under some bushes to get to the bank and when we stood up, we were covered in leaves and these funny little pink flower buds. My niece kept pointing at me and saying .. Ha Ha Ha you have flowers all over you!!! She didn’t seem to notice that she was just as covered as I was. I tried to tell her that she was covered with the funny little flowers too, but she  still could not see it. She could only point at me and laugh. It was making me a little angry that she continued to point at me and laugh. Being only 7 years old she just was not able to understand that it was causing me discomfort or that she looked just as silly as I did with these flowers all on our clothes and in our hair.

I woke up then and it dawned on me, I had read this scripture the day before. .. Luke 6:41-42 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

I don’t hold my niece to the same maturity as another adult but this helped me to understand that a lot of people in this world have hearts that are still very immature. The ability to examine your own heart and not jump to judge others takes a lot of maturity.

I got a really clear picture  in this dream that when someone is judging another person it is probably because they have the same issue but can’t or wont see it and it takes the pressure off of them to see someone else have flaws. It’s much easier to see errors in others than in yourself. And when they are pointed out to us it either makes us angry or causes us to run into hiding and denial. It’s a lose lose situation.

And now I understand that if someone is pointing at me for my errors there is a good chance that in their hearts they are just like a child. Unable to see or understand the injury they are causing or the errors within themselves.
